At Tim Wallace Soil Mix Supply and Nursery we make it quick and easy to pick out new nursery stock to enhance your home’s landscape. Of course, you are encouraged and welcome to come out to the farm on a day we’re open and browse our nursery stock in-person.
Step 1: Click Our Products. Select from the various drop-down menu options, the plant type you’re interested in. Browse our on-line inventory of available trees and shrubs from that menu group. Be sure to read and consider all the “specifics” about the plant. (ie. Mature height and spread, sun exposure, etc.) Find the plant(s) you’re interested in and jot that info down.
Step 2: Once you have found the plants you’re interested in, ensure that we have that plant(s) available and in-stock. Our on-line information is updated regularly. But if you’d like to confirm availability, simply send us an email message.
Step 3: Come out to the farm on any day we’re open (currently Friday and Saturday). Select the specific plant(s) from your list. You don’t pay until you “in person” choose your plant(s).
Step 4: Most perennials and shrubs can be “take with”. For larger items like trees, a truck or trailer is required for “take with”. We have machines to load larger plants. Delivery and planting of trees is available at an additional cost.
At the farm you can also browse our Landscape Design Templates. With these, you simply look for a design that most closely matches the area(s) of your home that you’re looking to add plants. Once found, make note of the recommended plants for that area and choose from our in-stock offerings.
Reasons Why Adding New Plants to You Landscape Makes Sense
Adding new trees and shrubs to your home’s landscaping offers numerous benefits, both aesthetic and practical. Here are some key advantages:
- Enhanced Curb Appeal
- Aesthetic Appeal: Trees and shrubs can transform your home’s exterior, creating a more attractive and inviting environment. Well-planned landscaping increases the visual appeal, potentially boosting property value.
- Privacy: Trees and shrubs can provide natural privacy screens, blocking the view from neighbors or the street.
- Environmental Benefits
- Improved Air Quality: Trees absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen, enhancing air quality and promoting better health for residents.
- Reduce Noise Pollution: Dense trees and shrubs can help block or absorb noise from traffic, neighbors, or other environmental sources, creating a more peaceful living space.
- Wildlife Habitat: Trees and shrubs offer habitats and food sources for birds, butterflies, and other wildlife, contributing to biodiversity in your area.
- Energy Efficiency
- Shade and Cooling: Strategically planted trees (especially deciduous trees) can reduce direct sunlight on your home, helping to cool it in the summer. This can lead to lower air conditioning costs and improved energy efficiency.
- Wind Protection: Evergreens planted in windbreak patterns can reduce wind exposure, preventing heat loss during the winter months and lowering heating costs.
- Erosion Control
- Soil Stabilization: The roots of trees and shrubs help hold the soil in place, preventing erosion and reducing runoff, especially on slopes or areas with loose soil.
- Stormwater Management
- Water Absorption: Trees and shrubs absorb rainwater through their roots, which can reduce surface runoff and help manage stormwater, preventing flooding and reducing the strain on local drainage systems.
- Health Benefits
- Mental Well-being: Studies show that exposure to nature and green spaces can reduce stress, promote relaxation, and improve overall mental health.
- Physical Health: Outdoor spaces with plants encourage physical activity such as walking or gardening, leading to increased physical health.
- Long-Term Investment
- Increased Property Value: Landscaping that incorporates trees and shrubs can boost your home’s market value, offering a good return on investment when you decide to sell.
- Sustainable Landscaping: Trees and shrubs are long-term investments that grow over time, increasing in value and benefits as they mature.
- Seasonal Interest
- Year-Round Beauty: Different trees and shrubs offer seasonal changes, such as blooming flowers in spring, lush foliage in summer, colorful fall leaves, and interesting bark or evergreen leaves in winter.
- Low Maintenance (Once Established)
- Low-Care Options: Many trees and shrubs require minimal maintenance once established. They can be relatively low maintenance, saving time and effort compared to other landscaping elements like grass.
By integrating trees and shrubs into your landscaping, you create a more beautiful, sustainable, and functional outdoor space that provides numerous long-term benefits for both you and the environment.
